Indeed, therein consists the wonderful uniqueness of the Word of God, that it never becomes obsolete or antiquated; but speaks with equal force and power to every age and generation of men. “For whatever things were written aforetime,” the apostle tells us, “were written for our learning,” and the things which happened unto Israel in the course of their national history “happened unto them for ensamples, and they are written as types for our admonition upon whom the ends of the world are come”.
